Bakersfield, CA doctors say time to open schools and businesses!

Two Bakersfield, CA doctors argue their research definitively  concludes, healthy people no longer need to shelter in place. Do you agree?

I think it’s time to open up society. At the onset of quarantine, most people kept saying to trust the experts and trust the scientific community. Now with the many medical and scientific contrasting opinions regarding the severity of COVID and the affects on relatively healthy people, whose medical opinion do we now trust?Our Governor respectfully, keeps changing the goalposts for re opening our state. Time to re-start  California.

Reasonable people can look at data and respectfully disagree, and I’m in that camp. I’ll say this: on my program I’ve had Dr. Bill Morice, President of Mayo Clinic Labs and Chair of Lab Medicine and Pathology.. New York-Presbyterian Hospital nurse Nusrat Qadir and coronavirus survivor from Albany, Georgia, Jason Spears (103.5 temp for 10 days, came close to dying). Based upon what I’ve learned from them, we need to wait. We’re all hungry to find our way back to whatever a new normal looks like but the best indicator on a better time to open is testing. And without significantly higher numbers in that area, it’s impossible to get a truly accurate read if in fact we’re actually getting ahead of this virus.

Not going to rely on one person’s opinion. He owns an urgent care. Yes I think numbers are skewed. Yes I think we need to restart opening. But not basing it on an incomplete news story.

The bottom line is the doctor's claims were not backed up the officials who said backed up his claims. It's an substantiated opinion at best. That's not good enough to risk our lives on.

I watched the video provided, thank you.Now here is my opinion of these two doctors...they OWN AN URGENT CARE!!! They are business owners first, and they want to make money! The Doctors say their info has them believing healthy people should go back to school and work. You know why they feel that way? So that healthy people leave their homes, get sick, then run to urgent care, to pay these two, to test them! They want people out of their homes, the more people infected the more money in the urgent care biz.That’s my cynical opinion.

I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV.  However, I've been tracking the numbers of Covid cases vs flu cases as reported by John Hopkins the past 2 months and couldn't understand our mandated response to it all or people's panic.  Certainly Covid-19 is something to be dealt with but 30-000 to 50,000 people die every year from the flu.  And there is a vaccine for that.  The flu is transmitted similarly so why haven't gov't officials mandated masks and distancing for the flu every year.  Not sure how credible these Bakersfield doctors are but I do not know anyone that has Covid-19 nor do I know anyone that knows anyone that has it.

it seems that there are a number of studies to support this view. They likely are right and I applaud them for taking a stand and telling the truth about what they observe. If you read about their statistics they had half of all the test results in the entire county. Governments are not doing general population testing to determine the true death rate. Instead they use “confirmed” cases which doesnt count the huge population already exposed to the virus. Their numbers are likely right.

This reminds me of my favorite statistics quote:  “Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.”You always have to consider the source of everything. The numbers can be manipulated to suppprt both sides. Who knows. My physician dad sent me this link yesterday.  He wants to believe it, as do we all.  The video is too long and needs to be cut into bullet points to fit the attention span of the audience and spark a national debate  Bring it on!!

A ton of media outlets are trying to discredit these guys BUT they have 1/2 of the covid19 tests completed in the entire county. There data is showing that the infection rate is huge which means the death rate is similar to the flu. There are other studies that agree with that from USC and Stanford btw.

Gonna have to go with the CDC and all the other agencies that recommend we stay at home.

It's clear that the medical science and testing has to play itself out, only then can feds, states, Tribal governments, municipalities, businesses/corporations, and general public members make decisions, enact policy, and develop consensus on the appropriate public health considerations and measures that need to be taken. It's clear that everyone is getting antsy and wants to emerge from this forced hibernation and re-engage society and public spaces, no matter how controlled they may be, but until the infectious disease and medical professionals get a clear and prolonged handle on this virus from a medical science and health care standpoint, in terms of treatment and recovery, we should all expect these type of "expert" pontifications to continue to change.

Ya while I somewhat agree with this. I doubt I'd trust the owners of an urgent cares not affiliated with a major healthcare system. Have a couple friends who have worked for one of these and these type of places are cheapskates as well.

I don’t know about the health aspect, but the restrictions on freedom bother me. We are born free and need to be weary of government telling us it knows better than us.

Not all business as usual but a very slow gradual start.

Also what information did they provide that was helpful?

No one said it was, but what has been said was the virus can be stopped with proper precaution. And unfortunately drastic measure need to be taken to control the virus, because most of the virus is undetectable.
