Does Alex Smith’s return to the NFL add fuel to Colin Kaepernick debate?

Most won’t correlate the two.  Even though both are stories of incredible sacrifice and personal commitment. 
Shame on the owners for banning Kaepernick (and many of us myself included who missed the real message behind the kneeling).

It shouldn’t but it likely will. Some will frame it as “1-legged QB gets a 2nd chance while the able-bodied activist doesn’t” . Smith’s guaranteed $$$ (and the associated cap hit) requires Washington to try sticking with their franchise qb.  Has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with contract. Plus the fact, that when healthy, Smith is much better. IMO

All contract info aside, the nfl wants the positive story of alex smith. Especially for the Washington football team. I am rooting for him. This would be a great comeback. But, the nfl will take a chance on a guy injured so badly he nearly died, vs a guy protesting, regardless of what you think politically.

Two different things, this is an injury versus political stuff. Alex Smith never really left just has been hurt.

I view these as very different scenarios; hard to compare 17 surgeries with a "we don't want you because you crossed the line" -- in addition, Smith was a better QB two years ago than Kaepernick ever was.

Colin should get a chance yes, but Alex mental won’t be the same after that injury.

I'm sure they both are capable, Colin's sort of tryout last year seemed promising. I'd like to see them both play frankly. You are way more knowledgeable on football than any of us! I stopped playing split end in middle school!
