Look, I understand.  This is a formatting issue, not a free speech one.  And yes, people flock to sports radio to get away from politics. I do that.  But at the end of the day, GOOD sports radio (cough-scottandbr-cough-masonandirelandinla-cough-cough) talk about MORE than just sports. They talk LIFE. Gone are the days when some dees-dems-and-doze guy only talk about what a jerk an owner is (cough-spanos-cough-cough-cough) is...topics include life issues. movies, TV shows, various and sundry Darwin Award nominees...and yes politics. As long as the opinion is strong and intelligent AND it is something the everyone's talking about, I cannot see how you can NOT talk about a 
specific political topic. As long as you remember that you are a host of a SPORTS station and it is a topic that does not monopolize the entire 3-4 hour show.

Some topics are too important to ignore and they should be discussed on all platforms.  We should not be a society that puts their heads in the sand and think issues will go away.  Politics are already in sports.  It would be irresponsible for Sports Talk shows to ignore the subject.  I am not saying to dwell on the subject but it should be addressed.

The reason why political discussions become so easily heated and uncivilized is because said discussions have been treated as taboo for as long as I can remember. If we never talk about difficult things, then we will never learn HOW to talk about difficult things. Civility is taught and practiced, not inherited.
