I grew up in Orange County without any hockey presence.  Never got into it as no one I knew was into it.  That being said I now have friends that love the Anaheim Ducks and have sworn off the Angels, Lakers and Rams for hockey.  I've gone to games and enjoyed it.  But it simply doesn't compare to the other three sports for me.

Just a lot of other sports here already plus it really only is played when kids are younger in the north. Also game is way better in person less so on TV

Hockey's disdain for those uneducated in it's many nuances is it's own undoing. Rejection of the glowing puck etc.
People thought "you make the call" was a scoreboard time waster, meanwhile it was educating the fan base.
Going on strike and maiming their television deal years ago didn't help either.
As it stands now hockey would be well served with an HBO 24/7 Hockey show, that brought out stories and personalities in the game.

3o minutes on showtime gimme all the grit, lemme hear coaches cussing players, lemme me know why player x hates player y, tell me why it's been a rivalry etc.
Basically a weekly NFL films or HBO boxing special.
Tell me what icing is, so I can act smart in front of my girlfriend, when I'm tuned into the game I now care about.

I been hearing espn back in talks with the nhl trying to patch things up. Nbc will keep hockey most likely and moat likely fox will try to go for it

In now they tryed a tracking puck at the all star game

I didn't love it (except when it went crazy red on slapshots!) I think glowing puck was necessary to draw viewers who complained about not being able to follow it, eventually though viewers would have picked up on players body language.

The playoffs are on the Outdoor Life Network now, if glowing puck for 3 years means FOX or ABC instead I'd take it.

1. The glowing puck was a bad idea
2.i dont know that one so no comment there 
3. The tv deal and strike did hurt them it was basically the players and fans vs owners
