Dodgers are world champions for reasons more than the size of their payroll.  They have staying power forged in a long series of tight competitive battles experienced by the same set of experienced players.  They see every team's A-game, top starters, most focused play.  The Padres are like the emergence of the SF 49ers in the era of Joe Montana and Bill Walsh - they don't know how good they are yet.  The Dodgers already know.
