Is a $15 national minimum wage a good thing?

Bob Rauch

VERIFIED

An increase in the minimum wage will kill jobs and increase investment in automation. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office found that raising the wage to $15 an hour by 2025 could cause 1.3 million workers to become unemployed. Research from the Center for Economic Studies, a branch of the U.S. Census Bureau, has shown that increasing wages cause employers to cut hours and invest in automation.

It's already so expensive to live here in San Diego I don't see why not I remember when minimum wage was $4.25 an hour

Labor is the most expensive cost in most any business. Increasing the most expensive cost in any circumstances is not good let alone a Covid 19 economy. How can you give more when businesses are suffering. If you do increase minimum wage there should be a tax offset.

In a state with such high living expenses, yes, it is a good thing

Nope. My roommate who supported this junk thinking it was the greatest thing ever didn't believe me when I said he was going to get his hours cut or lose his job. He was replaced by an automated kiosk lol

Only if they are worth it and work their way to that level. Servers get paid much more than that when they work for it, shouldn't have to pay $15 and tip. So let's go Euro, give them $15 and NO tip or whatever and tip the hell out of good service ! Can't have it both ways ! Why should we give a lousy Lyft driver anything ? In fact they have it built in, complain about a bad ride snd you get a refund. But get a good ride and gladly pay them. I'm generous for good service and want my fee back if not ! Unfortunately in Resturaunt's it's the owner who eats it when he allows a bad server to stay!

Not sure, but overall I think it brings more harm than good.

Large box stores and big tech can handle the $15 minimum wage. Small businesses can not.

Agreed, if my guys start messing around or not completing paperwork on jobs, I cut their hours immediately until they get the message and obviously no wage increases.
I've had high priced electricians work slower than their network skilled counterparts forcing me to get rid of them. Bobs Right !
