If Alex Spanos still owned the Chargers and was still alive and healthy would the team still be in San Diego?

Yes he would have gotten a new stadium in Mission Valley and we would still have our Chargers in San Diego

No he would have gotten greedy like his son Dean and moved to Los Angeles

Well, I would have more faith in him then in his loser son....so yes....even though we will never know for sure!

No. There's an article from the San Diego Reader I came across in 1999 in which Alex Spanos began his behind-the-scenes dealing with positioning the team to one day be available to go to LA. Couldn't believe what I was reading.Right after the Raiders and Rams vacated LA, and the Chargers lost in the SB in 1995, Spanos began his plight (the guaranteed ticket deal in exchange for votes on city council, etc), and from 1995-2003 he basically put on this face of "San Diego is our home, blah blah." Then when Dean took over the operations everything went further south.I really don't believe Alex or Dean Spanos had honest intentions to stay in SD long-term. They could've sold pieces of the team for cash influx to privately finance a new stadium without taxpayer or city assistance. The further actions of Dean Spanos once his father was unable to make lucid decisions proves they were cash-strapped and wanted to screw over the good people of San Diego. Now Dean's getting what he deserves. And if what I'm hearing is true, I think Dean's siblings are re-thinking their 24% ownership stake in the team, or collectively, 72%.I say - SELL, SELL, SELL!!

No doubt Alex would have found a way to keep the Chargers in San Diego

I think he would have gotten it done from everything I heard. To Dean the chargers are just a pay day.

My Family worked for Alex in Tarpon Springs Florida & a hotel in Clearwater Florida. He was extremely nice to us. But he loved the best deal and the biggest market possible ; when he talked.

No way to know for sure, but I have to think Alex Spanos would have had enough of an awareness when it comes to business to know LA was a bad idea. He was a guy who made bologna sandwiches by noting migrant works were in need. Dean I think didn’t, and ultimately acted on bad advice by people who only saw the LA dollars.

Can’t say he wouldn’t have tried or perhaps moved the team elsewhere...Greed ? seems to run deep in the Spanos DNA ? BUT I would be very surprised if Spanos Sr. would have jumped on the opportunity to play renter in Kroenke World.
