According to CDC the covid-19 death rate is estimated at most 0.4% other scientists highest rates show 1.5% maximum. Why are we so scared?

the news freaks me out. The way they report makes it seem like everyone is dying and pandemonium. But looking at the pure facts on the death rate not the cnn scare tactics im wondering why we are so terrified of something that is way less likely to kill the average person than driving a car, crossing the street, being bit by a moaquito, heart attack, etc etc

LA 130,000 cases 1800 deaths. 0.24 if im doing the math correctly. And of that 0.24 most were elderly and had severe underlying health issues.

Not to say there isn't the rare case someone younger and healthy doesn't die but its very rare. 

Left wing media certainly overhyping and right wing under estimating. But as an independent voter it seems the left is all about doing anything humanly possible to get Trump out....except for electing a qualified candidate 🤣

The virus is scary but chances of illness and/or death are very low for young or even healthy older adults. But the media frenzy is in full swing and between them and politicians who also hate Trump, they are scaring everyone. We should keep the economy humming and protect the vulnerable. We need more common sense folks like me! Right?

The death rate may be low, but that number is across all cases. If you look at both those that are compromised as well as the death rate in areas where there are hot spots - the numbers will tell a different story. Quarantining and social distancing is t just about protecting yourself or those around you. It’s about reducing the amount of stress on the healthcare system, so people who are really sick actually get the treatment they need.

2 reasons the unknown factor. I saw a 24 year old who has no other health issues before this end up in the ICU, and second is hospital capacity. The hospitals can't support the influx. Here in SD we have been stable at 65% capacity, Phoenix was 99% per the CDC and there were some reports of 100%. What that means is that hospital staff decide who to treat and who has to die. I work for a local hospital and the CEO sent out how we would handel that situation in an email to all hands back in april

It's a scary virus for some people and the percentage of serious illness is in fact very low, but the media and politicians who want Trump out badly are continuing to scare. Make no mistake, if you are older, you do not want the virus, hence we should let people work, keep the econ ol my moving and protect the vulnerable.
