It's easy to be a great defensive coach when you have guys like Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey on your defense

The Red Pimp

The reason I am hating on the selection is simple, have you seen the resume? This guy is getting a head coaching job very early in his NFL career. He is an extremely young coach, with very limited experience. Now I will grant you he had an excellent year, his first as a DC, but going from a LB coach, to a DC, to a head coach, in three seasons is fast. All we know is he had one good year with the Rams.

I don't think the Chargers make many good moves

I said the same thing. Thats who they should have hired!

Oh my God I Love Brian Schottenhiemer ,I wanted him as head coach ,Great suggestion ! I wish they would ,It’s only right he has a chance to redeem his fathers legacy. Thanks for talking with me!

Hey Ken, now Dean can take blame if and when it become McCoy and Lynn all over again.

I would say a talented young QB, with a lot of weapons. I would rather have Brian Schottenheimer, who the Seahawks just fired. I suspect Steichen goes back to a position coach. We will see. Good early morning convo!

Yes clock management was an issue It was his first year , He’ll never have a first year again .but clock management that’s just as much Lynn’s fault ...The Seahawks are interested in Steichen as OC so he can’t be that bad .Herbert had the greatest rookie Season ever with him .

Also, Dean himself was supposed to be more involved in this hire. So was this his choice?

Ken Foster

If you think Steichen is a legit option, then explain all of the clock management issues this offense had this past year. Go look at his resume, and you will see he too was promoted way too early. No chance he is their OC.

Hiring an OC is not hard .Pep Hamilton and Sean Steichen are still good options in house .Most people don’t like the selection , There is no cookie cutter way to pick a head coach..Yes he’s a defensive guy but most people don’t know is Staley was a multi year staring quarterback for Dayton ...He’s not just a defensive mind .

I feel the same. Why go D? Now it is up to this young head coach AND Tom Telesco to find an offensive coordinator who can properly tutor Herbert.

But why are they hiring a defensive coordinator? They need someone who can teach Herbert. This is a typical Spanos hire.

Drafting Justin Hebert was a great move....Hiring Tom Telesco was a great move...time will telling Staley .

Joey bosa The highest Paid Defensive player, all pro and derwin James all pro ....he will have similar talent
