Yeah, I agree that there is a lot of BS debates posted that are of zero interest to me. Like the new one about a police helicopter. Is that really something to be debated? I skip over a lot of crap, and that's why I'll never be in top 10, despite winning two debates today (i'm in 29th place.) I can't waste time voting and commenting on garbage. Two other questions. Why share on Twitter and FB? Isn't the point to be here and not on those other platforms so often? And why are there so many new people with weird/fake names and no picture (Lamb Chops...really?) Same as an egg on Twitter.

I was going through the questions today and quality is not as good. I prefer more thinking, less quantity.  Also agree that points for a great debate and a great post would be nice but the system is fair as we vote via likes and which questions we answer--leave it be but I like this question!

The key to scoring points on sided is simple, create high quality content, share it with your twitter followers and Facebook friends, by clicking the arrow in the bottom right corner, and getting people engaged. Poor content, and overwhelming the timeline will only have people not follow you, which will become a big deal as we expand. So try to write your best content, then share it, and let your debate breathe!

I think most of us are trying different things, different time frames for debates, serious topics and silly topics. Quality is in the eye of the beholder.

Quality and something fresh is important to me. It’s hard to get interested in stuff that is repeat/previously asked IE coke or Pepsi, or is baseball coming back. Quantity is important but not at the expense of quality

Great question. For those users interested in climbing the leaderboard this question is going to have different responses than it will for users who pick and choose their spots. All users come to Sided for different reasons. For the former, I am of the opinion, that so long as Sided continues to allow users to vote for themselves and post unlimited debates, it's pretty clear that Sided is incentivizing users for the quantity of their debates and comments and votes over quality. Just look at how the points are being tallied as reflected on the leader board on a week to week basis. That might change once the app is out and scoring becomes more influenced by whether users are on social media or not. I see Scott's response and wouldn't expect anything different, Sided is a business and platform designed towards facilitating particular outcomes for its users, so, of course, they want as many people playing for as long as possible. In the end, regardless of it's intended or designed structure, it's really up to the users on how they want to participate. If you are looking for a substantive debate, create one.

Great debate question, I almost posted something similar earlier in the week! There is a lot commentary and literature in various design fields asking these types of questions, so it is not unique to Sided.

Yes, I agree and especially lately.  I’ve left points on the table because I didn’t want to engage.

I hear ya, although the question posed wasn't necessarily asking about how to score more points. You have some users who are not interested in scoring points. You have some users who are not on social media. I get that people on social media and interested in placing on the leader-board are going to be your desired users and you have to design with them and those outcomes in mind, but I think it is also important to note that you have other types of users as well. Ultimately, users dictate how they participate on Sided.

I think the thing that is weighted the most is likes on the first comment only. Bernard is 150-200 points ahead of 2nd place all the time based on having 2 or 3 hearts on that comment alone. He doesn’t have that many debates overall, and the ones he does aren’t outliers for a tremendous amount of votes or comments, they’re pretty much in line with most others.

I think two of those statements contradict each other. Writing your best content and having a lot of followers are mutually exclusive. People with tons of social media followers will always dominate just with the simple fact that more eyes will be on the debate. For example, the debates about bachelor are not particularly well written or thought provoking. I’m not jealous, though...

Well, just to defend that question, I think it was a good one. I live in Oceanside near the base. We hear the ghetto birds all the time. It’s wasn’t my debate, but just saying. Also, if you have noticed, it’s always the same people writing, commenting, and using this site. The point with sharing on Twitter is to get new eyes on this site. I don’t have any followers really, but I just want more people to look at my debates. About names and faces, totally agree there! Put your name on it!
