The 1090 reach goes up the coast... SD, OC and LA. In order for the 2.0 station to succeed they need to pull audiences from all markets. I believe that the radio bandwidth in addition to the new platforms will keep the team on for years. Bring DSmith back, figure out the morning ride and let Scott and BR bring you home.

Alan Marland

I severely dislike anything associated with Los Angeles, but if If LA is going to pay the bills, then I can stomach a smattering of LA sports content. The current Scott and BR content is not that Sports heavy so I think I would still listen if some LA stuff is added.

Michael Johnson

say "Southern California's Sports Leader" not So Cal

Curtis Reddell

Kelli Calimlin

This is what made 1090 great. If I want to hear about LA teams, iI’d use in to stream 570, 710, or 830. If you want to cover the Rams and Lakers, that’s fine. Screw Spanos.

Bob Marks

Because the Brand has always been San Diego centric. I would puke if I ever heard a dodger game on the 1090. Angels--- I've heard worse at least not the dodgers. Rams works because it's the tinnitus in dean spanus ear. But I don't listen, and won't listen to an la centric show and will turn off la talk s usual.

Nick Wallace

With your new stream broadcasting added, you are way more than SD but still make your focus SD for Great Friends Network

Parks LaMarche

First, the heritage of 1090. This was the blaster that introduced SoCal to Wolfman Jack. So it is part of LA history. It's been mentioned before but that 50kw stick can be heard farther and clearer than the other border blaster at 690. As I also said, I love in Canoga Park/the Northern San Fernando Valley and 1090 was clear as a bell. Add some creative promotion, and you could give 570 and 710 here a run for their money.

Don P.

Micah Rutkoff

Like mgbj...I hate everything LA....but if it helps pay the bills then go for it....but my vote is SD!

Dan Waddell

Because you all are great and need to be heard far and wide

Mary Beth Polk

Not enough in SD going on. Cover it all.

Don Benson

Still bitter about the chargers, I don't want anything that reeks of L.A. , I understand that you are making a business decision to do it, similar to the same reasons Spanos did it as well. Still will support you guys, just will not listen as often though.

TuRockShow

Very proud that this was a “San Diego” station. If you go “SoCal”, I think to much LA content will drive the loyal SD listeners away. Still a lot of folks, including me, are still pissed about the “C words” leaving for up there. Even more hatred toward that city and its shitty owner. SD all day every day

Darren Alcalay

Teach Spanos what he should have done in the first place! Focus on SoCal not just one city.

Nancy Bracamontes

Johnny Adair

I have no interest in anything to do with Los Angeles.

Jersey Black

Because we need to stay true our San Diego community! The Spano's left us for supposedly for a Bigger market.
We can be like that, we need this Sports Station to be our voice and be represented. San Diego Sports Station

David Keyser

So Cal Sports leader. As Hacksaw says, “Baja to the Canadian Rockies"

Personally I care about San Diego and Lakers then light national stories.

Aggie

Joe Delgadillo

Anything SD should stay in SD, the chargers are LA now, cover SD sports! Aztecs, Gulls, Soccers and etc. Even try to showcase some high school stars. But LA, let them have the chokers and possibly get something going that is football in the future in SD!

Anthony R Villareal

Of course there’s a desire for greed here however. With the streaming reach why pay for a “signal”?

Just send a local signal and put those funds into other ventures.

Brad Sparks

It raises the scope of the coverage of Sports to the size of the 1090 signal.

Robert Lee

Start serving the sports needs of everyone who gets the signal and tunes in.
Financially, it's the only way to survive

steven white

As a project manager I am always on the road and it was great to be as far as Santa Barbara and hear the voices of 1090. You own SD, got get you some of LA. If you are going to do this go big Kap. Plus a SD signal does not get to us in the Temecula Valley which is home to many SD transplants.

madelman

Totally rebranded. No more mighty. Different colors. SoCal focus. More soccer.

Craig Misrach

Michael Noël

Victor

There are already plenty of sports radio options in Orange and LA County. SD > LA

Ice Devil of Carlsbad

pmsmcmann

Who cares if it can be heard in Portland, Seattle or Santa Barbara? Just ask the folks in Santee, Lakeside, El Cajon and Alpine. Signal there way too susceptible to in-home interference and power lines. Crank it up to the east!

Mike McMann

Branching out to all of California is better for business then staying loyal to the soil. Because what has that ever one anyone?

Edward Miller

Do the existing sponsors have operations in LA?

I say keep it the same and rep SD While be ambivalent about touching on regional sports teams.

Bubba

Branching out to all of California is better for business then staying loyal to the soil. Because what has that ever won anyone?

It needs to be the MEGA Station of all of So Cal to make the money it need to stay on the air. As long as the "C" Words are not part of it. Baseball - Basketball - Hockey - Football - Soccer - Pro and College - It all needs to be covered 24/7 - None of this ESPN in the off hours either - All Local talent.

Jeff S

Business works is getting small : the bigger sports vertical market and he more money you will make

Josh Abner Vizcay

I go back to the mighty 690 days and that's when your station or I should say the blowtorch was at its highest point and they did talk about all Southern California Sports and since the signal can reach all the way to Oxnard to the Mexican border and Beyond guess what peeps it's Southern California Sports only

Robert lucero

1090 can beat LA Sports stations in listener engagement. LA Sports talk has completely moved away from the regular sports fan participation

Kelly Meier

Ron Croft

There's a fanbase outside of San Diego (myself included) And if you can branch out of San Diego sports a bit (but still be SD centric) that would be great.

Armando.

Larger market size. I'm also interested in some OC and LA teams. Make SD the focus though.

Teresa Swift

The sustainability of the station IS GREATLY increased if SoCal is looped into their standard programming. Let's not be afraid to get outside our wonderful San Diego bubble and think about the long-term. I think we all want a long-term solution. Solely San Diego doesn't provide that.

Joey

With 77,000-watts of power, there is no way it can be solely focused on just San Diego. Recommendation, be the Aztecs new flagship, maybe Ducks/Gulls as well.

Lorenzo Z. Villalobos Jr.

More inclusive to other areas and sounds better.

Steve Boone

The Mega Broadcast naming convention should be inclusive of the area of coverage. SoCal is more hip and can reference a broader sense of content.

Chris Balteff

sandoglv is right; SoCal makes you sound like an East Coaster. It’s like calling San Francisco ‘Frisco’.
OBVIOUSLY, you need to become the full media Southern California sports information leader.

bballer

Why just San Diego? SoCal has so many sports teams, pro and collegiate. San Diego limits you. Mexico, San Diego, OC, LA and more!

Bob Rauch

Right now, San Diego is struggling with its sports identity. Like Alex said, we don’t want to paint ourselves in a corner. By opening up to all Southern California sports, it gives you multiple ways these shows can go.

Joe Cabral

“So Cak” works only if the signal reaches out of San Diego. I know my friends in OC/LA are missing 1090 badly!

Teri Boyle

Definitely cover southern California but imo it should be San Diego based content. Cover the Lakers, Rams, both soccer teams, but most importantly ignore the other Lame team

Fowler4Mayor2020

Daniel Hernandez

Plenty of more teams and sports to Chat about. The expanded sports dollar!

Clinton St Clair

Dark

If it’s sports talk, we need to talk all So Cal since SD has only one Major sports franchise (Padres) and a few Great semi-pro teams. But 1090 still needs to stay true to SD as well, especially with the high school sports and local universities.

Anthony Santiago

There's only one mayor league team in San Diego, you should cover Southern California and don' forget South of the border, we have the Xolos,...

Manuel

It’s a no brainer. Charges should have changed to the So Cal Chargers. Don’t be a Spanos!

Jim Puerner

75% San Diego content
15% Los Angeles content
10% Rest of California/Other sports

Center the focus on San Diego but in corporate LA and the other surrounding areas without dedicating entire shows to them so you don’t drive listeners away.

Eric Thorpe

I drove around LA last weekend, 1090 is clear on the 10, on the 405 well north into the valley. We def can penetrate the LA sports talk market place!

Jud Harrison

Because I live in Santa Barbara and you guys provide the best sports radio there is. Even if you stress San Diego stuff, it's still far more compelling and interesting than the L.A. stuff. And, I'm from L.A.

Bill Mahoney

I'm okay with it being either San Diego's Sports Leader or SoCal's Sports Leader. To me the main thing is to get 1090 Sports Radio back on the air first. Have to admire Scott Kaplan's efforts here as he hasn't given up on 1090 and is fighting the good fight for what he believes in. Win or lose he has done a helluva job trying to get 1090 back on the air. If he does it he has pulled off a coup never done before in Radio. Even if he doesn't, he gave it his best effort. Should that be the case. get 1090 Sports on Sirius XM and have it go national. They have the show and the right people to do it.

Darryl Martin

I think I already answered this once.... LOL

To draw in the advertisers if they know their commercials are going out in a larger market. In this case, Southern California, vice only San Diego.

Keith Klipfel

Dennis Huff

Thank you Radio Don, great feedback! Appreciate you testing the platform!

I agree with Don, Southern California is a region, if you want to go to an NBA game, and you live in SD, you drive to LA. If you want to go to an NFL game, and you live in SD, you go to LA, etc. the teams and the money, is in LA and OC, we can be SD based, and SD residents, who look at the entire region, as its own!

They will still be primarily a SD station. Don't expect them to do 2 hours on LAFC. But LA's KFI and KNX do very well in SD. There is nothing wrong with having a regional sports station when we have a regional talk and a regional news station as well.

The greatness about 690 was its incredible reach. 1090 has that same possibility on the local level for the ‘mega market.'

If 1090 goes forward, and I believe it will, it must take advantage of its massive reach.

690's great success was as the home of Chargers during a great run, the home of the LA Kings when they advanced to the Stanley Cup for the first time. The home of the UCLA Bruins when they last won the NCAA basketball title.

The Tony Gwynn Report for 5 years, 3 days a week - from nearly hitting 400 to his 3 thousandth hit, the 98 World Series, Padres fans lived it on 690

1090 can do ALL that as well

Signed,
Someone who actually did it

JOE TUTINO

Feeling you, which is why I am asking, but we can agree, the content and sales are in LA, right?

I agree. These 'other ventures' could include better reaching of the areas 1090 claimed to serve in the past. Who cares if it can be heard in Portland, Seattle or Santa Barbara? Just ask the folks in Santee, Lakeside, El Cajon and Alpine. Signal there way too susceptible to in-home interference and power lines. Crank it up to the east!

Also 1090 can be the Sports Gambling leader

The new 1090 should be...
