Per LA Times lead sports columnist Bill Plaschke, the Chargers WILL NEVER be accepted in LA! Is he right?

This is an issue that can only be corrected by the League. The recent Forbes interview with Fred Maas tells a damning tale that Dean is dug in for now and there's nothing the fans can do. It'll be up to the owners and the league going forward.

ownership of the team prevents the team being accepted anywhere other than San Diego they need to go back to San Diego.. in Los Angeles and Orange County the Chargers will always take a back seat 2 USC and UCLA . They just are irrelevant

He’s right. Just look at the Clippers. Just kinda there, no fan base, giving the Lakers extra home games. Will they move back, probably not. Again, look at the Clippers, still there, no one cares, extra Laker’s games at home. Arash Markazi posted an ESPN article yesterday from 2011 stating Packers fans took over the Q. Ok, but anyone whose followed the Chargers in San Diego knows what it was, compared to what it is now. Should they just move the team back, yes, but at the end of the day, they’re probably content in Clipper land giving the NFL fans in LA a home game experience for whatever team they like. They should just change their marketing strategy to “Want to experience a home crowd for your team away from home!? Well buy Charger tickets!? Check schedule to see when your team will be here!”

I can’t stand Plaschke. He’s too consumed on TMZ drama with the Lakers. His opinions are nothing to me.

SD was the proper fit. Tons of fans and Spanos took that away.

The idea that they can try to move into their neighbor's yard is silly. I like my neighbor's yellow lab, but I don't want it messing up my yard. LA will never admit it, but they do not like San Diego as much as San Diego does not like LA.

I read an article that described the Chargers in LA for the 1960 season. They talked about how all 2,000 fans at the Coliseum were moved to the center of the stadium to make it look like people were there. They played 4th fiddle then to the Rams, USC, and UCLA. History is repeating itself today. If Spanos re-branded the team, LA would be more likely to accept it (see LAFC in soccer). As long as the Chargers are there, people will say they belong in San Diego, which is true!!!!

Mike Krupinski

Just no doubt, I am not even sure what they would have to do to make themselves relevant. I don't even think a superbowl would fix it.

Derrick McQuinn

Never. They’ll always be seen as San Diego’s team playing in la and unfortunately until the NFL steps in, Spanos will continue embarrassing the league, team and most of all the fans (what’s left of them). As long as he can continue to line his pockets, as he’s demonstrated over and over again, he doesn’t care!

Joe Rigby

They’re irrelevant now, it’s not gonna change 5, 10, or 20 years from now.

Yes Plaschke is right. Spanos turned his back on the city of San Diego and lost his fan base. I believe he will go down in the history books as the most incompetent owner ever. Ultimately the league will have to take action and "encourage" him to sell the team.

Joe Cabral

Agreed, which is why it is so important to have major market columnists writing the way Plaschke did, that puts pressure on the league and the owners to right this wrong!
