His play and numbers prove that #7 belongs in the rafters! I’m unfortunately a Knick fan who’s watched this train wreck of an organization kill players chances. Carmelo never had the next level teammates that could give them an opportunity to win, all because the owner and front office goons are the leagues worse. He got a horrible team to the playoffs 3 times and has always been one of the NBA’s elite offensive scorers. Melo #7 MSG awaits!

No, he only played seven seasons in NY and took them to the playoffs three times, only once getting out of the first round. I am sure Denver will retire his number, even as his time spent, career averages, and playoff success is only marginally better. Anthony is a hall of famer, one of the purest scorers the game has ever had, his problem though is that his career was evenly split between two teams who never did won it all. Couple that with the fact that his career trajectory coincides with when the league went to a 3 and D and spread offense feel. It is cool to see him resurrect himself and do well in what is looking like a down year in Portland. But like most superstars, their ego often gets in the way of reality as their game fades.

Knicks haven''t been relevant in years which is why Carmelo fits perfectly. He's certainly not getting his # retired by any of the other teams he played for.

I think that Melo should get his Jersey retired, just not right now. There is a complicated legacy to Melo and honestly not much winning to show for it. That being said he was a definitive generational player and I think a touch of nostalgia will kick in and then a jersey retirement would probably be perfect

This isnt Oprah, not everyone goes home a grand prize winner. he was good but never great, had big wins but never won big. This would be a PR move more than a sign of basketball respect if they did something like this.

Im pretty sure you have to have achieved something of lasting legacy or effect on a franchise in order to deserve your jersey getting retired

I would love to see them retire his jersey! that would mean that any and all of us have a chance to get our names retired for the Knicks since I have done just as much to help them win a title as Melo did.

Those of us who followed the Knicks from the 60s would agree that Patrick Ewing, Walt Frazier, Willis Reed, Dave Debusschere, Dick Barnett, Earl Monroe and Bill Bradley are deserving. Perhaps I put Melo up there with Richie Guerin. Almost--but no retired number.
