Would you prefer to reside in La Mesa with income of $75,000, or Hollywood with $150,000?

I lived in both La Mesa and Hollywood.  You couldn't pay me enough to live in Hollywood again 

Here's the deal though. If you are young and single and want to purely have fun and have a lot of money Hollywood is fun as hell. But after about 2 years you see the same people doing the same things. Everyone tries to be someone they are not. Very fake 

Now that I am older and married with a kid anywhere in San Diego country would be my preference. No better city/county in the usa imo than San Diego

Here is the issue, it really does take twice as much money in LA, SF or NYC over SD. I would take A LOT more money to go somewhere else, and going from 75 to 150 wouldn’t be enough to buy me out of SD. Now, if we are going from 75 to 500, that is the kind of financial jump it would take to get me to leave AFC!

I recently made a similar decision moving from Laguna Beach to Temecula 3 years ago. $1.3m house falling apart on the beach $7500 mortgage, never home to enjoy it, slave to the house, bought 4500 sq’ house in a Temecula, gutted it, custom kitchen, $2900 mortgage and a sail boat in Long Beach. Sorry this was a really simple question, have to be there to compare, do it again all day long and we can afford to travel anywhere in the world no stress. And in times of Covad where income can be affected, I’m not stressed out ! 
And Hollywood’s not that great and very expensive and tons of traffic, lived there too. But has great Resturaunt’s and entertainment, we still go there regularly at least when no a Covad !
Do if not San Diego or OC, do Riverside.

Traffic makes all the difference in the world.  It takes 20 to 45 minutes to go anywhere just gets old really fast.

Median income in San Diego is $79,646. Wondering how many of those folks would leave for dreaded LA if doubling their dough. 
Beach house in La Jolla to beach house in Malibu is a whole other question.

I'm sure to a certain extent. I make, well made more money pre Covid-19 than I ever have and have no interest in moving anywhere except to San Diego County. Though sure if a huge number was thrown at me that would benefit my family id certainly have to think hard about it.

That’s rational. Fun in Hollywood when unencumbered, SD when more mature and settled down.
Still, we all have a number that would coax us away, right?

Don’t think that’s the norm and clearly that was not the community who burnt those buildings down.  Those were hired guns.

Yeah, born there, raised in SD, back to Hollywood for a downtown job, Palms (near Culver City), Dana Point, then back to SD to raise four kids.
Concur, Hollywood is small. Unless you have a beautiful spot up in the hills, there’s no glory there.
