This is like picking which of your kids you love more. My preference is Alpe d'Huez. The only reason is because of the 21 switchbacks. When I think of iconic climbs in cycling, this is the vision I see.

I love the 21 turns of Alpe d'Huez, how steep the switchbacks are, and the history behind it... but the "Giant of Provence" has literally had cyclists die at the top because they gave such a big effort going up. I love to see these iconic climbs in the Critérium du Dauphiné and the Tour de France because you always know it's going to be fireworks!

Dave, I have had the privilege of climbing ADH the day the Tour came through in 2011. What an experience! The streets were lined with cars and people partying. It was harder to navigate the traffic than to climb, which would have been great if all those people were not in the way! BTW I am your first follower on Sided, thanks for trying us out!

Alpe d'Huez or Mont Ventoux harder?
