Raider Nation: Do you think QB Derek Carr Has Been Unfairly Criticized for Team's Performance Over the Years?

He’s my guy, but needs to take it to the next level and let it rip!

Anthony Avila

Every year he gets a free pass. Blame goes to the defense, coaching, weapons around him, etc. Enough. Raiders offense is stacked. Jacobs is a top 10 RB, Waller a top 5 TE, OL top 3, new wr additions. Carr can’t crumble anymore when the pressure is on. He needs to elevate his team, not always the other way around.

Even the best of them can't carry a team on their own!

Derek Carr is a very good QB who has been blamed for just about everything that's gone wrong during his tenure with the Raiders. From having new coaches every year, to an organization still finding its way, Carr has taken the brunt of the criticism that should be placed elsewhere. That's not to say he can't improve - every player can.

Team game, but the QB is pretty much the team.

The QB is the most important position in football. If you have a good one they can overcome a teams shortcomings on all phases of the game. If you have a bad one or get inconsistent play, as Carr is very prone to, your team play is mediocre and your record is going to suck. At this stage of his career, he looks more like Jeff George and Jay Cutler than he does Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.

Christopher Moreno

How many coaches, head coach, offensive coordinators, QB coach, etc. and player personnel, has Derek had since the Raiders drafted him in 2014.

Fabian Ramirez

With the right targets to throw to he could be a pretty good quarterback and he is mobile but just like every other quarterback in the league, he needs protection up front

Got to elevate your game regardless, just because your team underperforms doesn’t mean you have to.

Derrick McQuinn

NOW the real Derek Carr has arrived . . While its great he turned his life to God and is the model family man, he always had that chippyness in him, it just had to come out . . Now he will show what he's made of.

Glenn Heinrich

It’s always unfair to blame one player for wins and losses in the ultimate team sport. But we do it anyways and the qb position is the one position that has the most affect on the success of a team so...

Rich

He just needs some more talent around him

He has got to get better. The Raiders treated Carr the way the 9ers treated Alex Smith, but now that Gruden has added stability, it’s time for Carr to improve, drastically, or Mariotta will be the Raiders qb!

There's some truth to this and yet, even though he had his best year since 2016, the Raiders were still 7-9 last year. He's seven years in at this point. Time for him to step up and get this team in the playoffs. No more excuses.

He has been given a free pass for being mediocre.

He has not lived up to his experience! He has played a ton and done very little.

Ok, I'm there with you. I hope he does well this year. If not, they should have the rock to Mariota and see what he can do. He's not there same pocket passer as Carr, but maybe he's got some of the other intangibles that a top QB needs, like being clutch when it's money time!

@chrism Yes and as I’ve mention on S&BT (YouTube chat) previously, there are no more excuses.

A lot and yet he's entering his third year with Gruden and his seventh year in the league. He's got too be held accountable at some point, no?
