Raider Nation Debate: Does Paul Guenther Have the Players He Needs to Profoundly Improve the Defense?

No...they will be better but he needs more bodies to really get better.

Yes...his unit needs to show vast improvement over past two seasons.

Clearly it’s not a top 10 defense but they finally addressed the Lb position, Improved the secondary and DL. Depth also was a focus. This is the best defense they’ve had in quite some time. No excuse for them not to be 17 or 18 overall which is quite a jump from whoever they’ve been recently

Albert Long

Probably not, takes time to build a good team

Derrick McQuinn

On PAPER..., it looks that way, but the D has to jell. But I do think they need DEPTH.

Fabian Ramirez

They've picked up some much needed pieces this offseason, now it's all about the D staying healthy, coming together as a unit, the coordinators building the right schemes, and everyone executing on game day.

Christopher Moreno

I feel they need more depth and time to gel. If they stay healthy they have the players to make the jump to top 20. With so many new and young players needed to contribute and this crazy offseason not sure they will get there this year

Jwon Pearce

I think their defense will be better. How much better? We will have to wait and see

The only thing I see missing is pressure up the gut. Hurst/Collins will be our starters in my opinion but we gotta see if they can collapse the pocket along with Hankins and possibly Ross playing behind them. We know Collins can be destructive but it’s a wait and see for Hurst. He’s been good but not great and Marinelli will play a huge factor as well

Daniel Salas

They do have better players for sure but 1). There has been no off season work. It will take time to gel and for all the new players learn the system. 2). While they’re much better, they still have little depth. A couple of injuries to key players and we’re right back where we started.
