Even if the Twins don't place 1st or 2nd in the central and make playoffs that way, they'd make it as that 7-seeded spot because there likely won't be another 3rd place team that finishes with a higher record to bump them down to 8. Blue Jays are an otherwise non-contender that now get the opportunity to compete for the postseason under the expanded format, and their way in would be through that 8-spot in the AL. I think it's unlikely that Minnesota falls that far down.
