Should the president be required to take a mental health exam?

Absolutely! It is the responsibility of the president to be mentally fit and stable to hold office.  Citizens have a right to feel confident and secure in the presidents mental health and behavior.

Absolutely not! By the president winning the election, that in itself is enough proof to citizens that they are mentally capable and mentally fit.

But also can be a slippery slope being a narcissist doesnt necessarily mean you will be a bad president 

But things like neurological issues such as dementia, early signs of Alztimers, etc that could literally physically and mentally effect a presidents job would make sense.

I’m not a trump voter, but does being a diagnosable narcissist disqualify someone from being able to effectively do a job? My dad is 50 with a bad shoulder but is still an effective carpenter. My mom is always stressed but is still a software engineer, I’m not sure the relationship between doing a job, and having a diagnosable mental disorder have to do anything. It seems to me if he didn’t qualify because of narcissism, that could be considered occupational inequity? This debate may be more helpful if we were provided with links to articles supporting your contention

I mean it seems like almost every president might fail or be diagnosed with something, but would be interested. The only concern I have is in the mental health world it seems there is a lot of opinions and difference with what is considered ceartin diagnoses.

It appears our argument may be going off track. And, threats from occupational inequity are protected from government jobs. We have laws governing who can be hired, and who can be denied for what reasons. For example: I can’t be denied a job based off of skin color. The same rules apply in government, because laws encompass government jobs as well. Moreover, there are explicit qualifications listed in the constitution, all of which DJT meets. You are correct, we are private citizens, and thus are protected from being exploited publicly. DJT is a public figure, and therefore does have certain aspects of his personal life shared publicly. However, that is generally in cases of slander, or libel. So, if DJT has access to a private record, and he does not wish to release it, he does not have to.

Your mother and father perform for profit jobs in a capitalist system for companies that could terminate them whenever they wish. While they are surely excellent at their job, I’m sorry to say that the requirements and challenges of being president outweigh those associated with their fields. Additionally, The president is elected, not hired, thus no protection exists for “occupational inequity”. Presidents ARE required to take physicals and report regularly on their health, the privacy protections we enjoy are not shared by elected officials.  Had we been able to review an in-depth mental health exam from Donald Trump, for example, any blame on mental health explaining his decisions or behaviors would have been void.
