Will there be horse racing in the United States in ten years?

Probably in some states if the horse racing industry cleans up their act.

No way. Few people under 40 give a shit. The take out from every bet is higher than every type of gambling except the lottery.

In the next ten years I don't see it going away. Now if they don't clean up there act I absolutely could see it over the next 30 years I could. By that point the generations that were more into it definitely would be a-lot less prevalent.Though I really hope it doesn't disappear completely. Cause it is actually pretty fun to go watch/see

Sadly, I was at Santa Anita for the Breeders Cup Friday. The place was very quiet.Hopefully Saturday is a great crowd and energy.Even from my biased opinion, the industry, much like radio, is a traditional type of media, and going through massive change,  with the bad publicity and fewer women attracted to the sport as a result, it will be tough to grow the audience. This is what makes Del Mar special; how much more there is to do, other than the racing.

The sport of kings will never go away.  I’d say, though, suspend Santa Anita Park racing for a few years and move winter/spring racing down to where the surf meets the turf.  Who wouldn’t want to be at Del Mar, especially when the PGA Tour comes to Torrey Pines at the same time?

Even from my biased position. I think the game is in big trouble.

I would have to agree that its in trouble, it definitely doesn't carry the same appeal to be people my age or younger that it did to previous generations.

Still for me I'd say I am as biased as your are mainly to the memories I have of going to Del Mar every summer with my Grandpartents for a day. So I really hope they can figure something out to survive.

It's a sad tale, but one that is true, Santa Anita's greed may destroy the entire sport. They should have willingly shut down, let the bad publicity quiet, then re open, but they were too greedy to do that, and in the process may have crushed the sport.

It has to be.  I grew up 10-15 minutes from Santa Anita when I was a kid.  The mountains are great and all, but I think it's time to have the racing near the beach.  Should be year-round.

Great point, take down Santa Anita and make Del Mar the home of racing in CA!
