In this day and age what is the real purpose of the media?

I really do believe this unfortunately.  So I read 3 different news report on the same exact event that came to pass yesterday. All three say different things happened. I am so sick and tired of people willingly trying to distort the truth on most if not all things in order to bury wedges into people, religions, money, families, our nation, our world. I fully understand that we are all different, yet at the same time we all have our similarities. There is common ground and uneven ground. Vanilla ice cream tastes one way to me, and a different to you, but has the same name and spelling...What is going on with our world right now.

Media no longer means ‘the news’ on television. Gone are the days of ‘journalism’ as the standard for defining ‘the news’. 

Even in newspaper, print, on line publishers who call themselves journalists, their parent companies are much more about money and agenda then they are the art of journalism. 

Our issue is many people think media means journalism, it doesn’t.

I think it should be to report the news and then give actual feedback.  To many outlets just spin to divide now.

It would be great if the news was really reported the right way. But it will never, it’s a bunch of made up stories or some type of BS. If they would really tell us what’s going on in the world people would go crazy and it would be a war out here

The news media is entangled in capitalism, and unfortunately, news reporting and editorializing, regardless if they are polarizing and how they are produced or received, drive ratings. When the ratings drop, people don't make money, when there is no money to be made, they will be forced to change it up. You would hope a global Pandemic like this would bring our country and the world for that matter together and be a wake up call for us to find some common ground. But power and money are nasty drugs.

Pretty sure it spose to be just actually report the news LOL... your point is well made though and it seems to be getting worse and worse. I try to take in all the diverse takes/sides/views and formulate my own at this point ... doesn’t seem to be a source that’s reliable without an agenda anymore.

As much as it could be 'entertainment'  when they begin to negatively impact the lives of others it needs to stop.
