Tuition-free college will decrease completion rates, leaving students without the benefits of a full college education and degree.

Tuition-free college will help decrease crippling student debt.

I see the benefits of tuition free, but maybe a short term fix might be reducing textbook prices! It’s getting way out of hand. Maybe also included more job prep and life prep support. Actually, most of the colleges I work are dedicated to helping students. The main problem is the bureaucracy that any government or organizational system creates.

Many states and other countries have free college. Canada has announced education will be virtually free for cash-strapped students but wealthier ones will still have to cough up.The high cost of a U.S. college education has many prospective students looking at countries that offer a free or low-cost college education. Five countries that offer a free or low-cost college education are Norway, Finland, Sweden, Germany, and France.Eleven states — Oregon, Nevada, Arkansas, New Jersey, Maryland, Tennessee, New York, Rhode Island, Delaware, Kentucky, and Indiana — already have these programs in place and nine more are working on legislation to do so.

I think there is more issues here then just the cost of tuition. Not sure giving it for free make a 100% sense either, especially with how there saying the return on investment isn't as much especially in california anymore (used to say for every dollar spent on college students education (financial aid) there was a 3-4 dollars in return, but I've heard of recent its become something like 2, which may not to be as worth it. I think part of the problem is we've lowered the standards or purpose college from getting a real further education and higher degree and have dumbed it down somewhat with a bunch of worthless degrees and crap

I think it is very expensive and in some cases the public schools should be more open and accommodating to the students who live in the state. For instance the UC schools are super tough to get into for California kids and they allow a bunch of out of state kids and international students to make more money.

I believe that Ca community colleges should all offer 4 year degrees in a variety of fields and be as possibly affordable to in state students. Attending a four year University is almost a debt that a young person can’t dig themselves out of.

Education is paid from taxes. No new taxes--people who want a degree must pay or get a scholarship. This concept is socialism from my perspective.

It doesn't even have to be free with exceptions of course. Just affordable would suffice for most Americans.

The only problem I see is the return on investment for tax payers, who lets face are the one who will pay for this and with how pour our public education system has become, might not be the best investment the way it is

I think there some logic too that, especially for basic degrees, Universities have become too bogged down with making up for our primary schools failures/poor result as well as degrees that could be completed easily at a JC/Community

Should Public College Be Tuition-Free?
