Defensively yes. But they’re not paying him for just his defense.

Without his glove on that side of the field Padres are in trouble. And his numbers are average but he’s a slow starter and his bats going sizzle in the next 2 months

I fully expect this contact to be underwater in six years but for now it's too early to call. I can tell you however he has brought a sense of urgency to the team and it's contagious. While Tatis so far has had more to do with this than Machado so far-he will hit for sure, his talent plays anywhere but, to assume he's worth it or not worth it during these early ultra prime years is absurd.

His presence, leadership, attractiveness to all fans ....it all helps to legitimize the Padres baseball club :

The bat will come around. Defense has been superb.

Manny is definitely an all-star infielder!! Just not an all-star hitter.

Alongside Cammy in '96 and a young Sheffield in '92, he is by far the best third baseman we've ever had. Plus he can fill in amazingly at SS if need be. I have no idea why any Padre fan who actually wants to win some games would complain about his contact. It ain't like he is cashing their checks.

Is Manny Machado living up to the hype?
