How can we focus on infrastructure with the amount of debt we carry?

Debt matters because we still have to pay interest and pay back loans.

There is no effect because the fed will just print more money, national debt is irrelevant.

Too much is really wasted on interest.. and the Fed cannot just print money at will, there is allot more to it than that..

I don’t think it’s irrelevant, but as long as other countries use our currency in reserve it should be ok. Who knows though. The United States is neither United, stately, or sound right now. Hope for the future? We’ll see...

too much money is wasted on interest payments and nothing paying down the principal. This cannot be maintained and soo we or later we need to tighten our financial belt.

Naturally debt matters--we need to live within our means. Privatizing some assets is one solution. Let's not borrow from the Communist Chinese Party.

These are interesting times given the current state of and uncertainty surrounding the US economy. Before Covid19, I would have said, yes, absolutely, balancing the budget should have been addressed at some point the last 12 years after it ballooned during the Bush presidency. Infrastructure needs continue to be ever present issue as well. Both have lacked leadership and have been paralyzed by partisanship games. One thing is for certain though, most families certainly can't run a household this way. Something has got to give. At some point, and I am not sure when because we seem to be printing a lot of money right now to address the Covid19 situation and rightfully so as so many people are in serious need of assistance, but the increasing debt has to be an issue that the federal and state governments take a look as soon as possible. Both parties have been guilty of spending and negligence.
