What started as a bit of harmless, competitive fun at a Ravens-Eagles joint practice now has the potential to morph into something historic. Carli Lloyd, the U.S. women's national team legend and midfielder for Sky Blue FC in the NWSL, is serious about pursuing a career in the NFL -- serious about becoming the first woman to play in the NFL.

Should Carli Lloyd get a shot as a kicker in the NFL?

Yes, definitely! She's a bad ass athlete who can hang with the best NFL kickers!

No, too much risk of severe injury in the NFL for a woman. Would impact the game too much.

Allison Ratzlaff

She has the athleticism and kicking skills to be so super successful! If she’s open to the physicality of football, then why not?!

Miguel Beltran

It's not she's getting run at linebacker, if she's up for the potential punishment then so be it.

Anthony Idol

definitely yes what she needs to do is practice the proper form for the two-step kick she'll be fine #Canon leg

What happens if she kicks off and is in the open field with the returner and 240 lb blocker in front of him? It would be the sports story of the year we didn't need to have happen.

I think the argument should necessarily start with whether or not it’s an injury risk, I think we need to look at ability/skill.1) she’s 37 years old, that’s make the her 6th oldest amongst active NFL kickers. Just like her male counterparts, at this point her leg isn’t getting any stronger.2) She’s learning a new position she’s never played before. In the video she takes a ~5 step approach to kick it and doesn’t leave until we’ll after the ball is placed. This timing and approach would never work in the NFL because she would not often have that much time. FG kickers take a 1.5 step approach, similar to a layup in basketball and usually start before the ball gets set. This shorter approach will undoubtably drop her power and therefore take away even more length.i’m not saying it’s impossible to have a female kicker, but Carli is too old for a sport she’s never played when there are hundreds of men who are younger, stronger and have been kicking footballs for longer.

I’ve seen plenty of clips of women in soccer taking harder hits than men and shrugging it off, so I’m not too worried about the physicality aspect. Especially since the kicker has the lowest risk of getting hit. As long as she can get the form down, I’d love to see history be made.

She should be able to tryout just like a man. Unfortunately she may face some issues in the locker room if she makes the team, but it’s her choice!

Carli is a gamer. She would fill stadiums. As an example, an empty Chargers stadium would be full. Surely there is an NFL team that needs both a kicker and more fans. The PR benefit is huge. And with practice she would do fine.
