MLB.com article on how Hedges can improve Strasburg

Would you put up with Austin Hedges lack of offense if it meant landing Stephen Strasburg?

Listen. Hedges sucks offensively there is no question there. BUT I wouldn't care if he hit .050 if it meant Stras came to the Padres. Sign me and Stras up right now!!!

He's a terrible hitter. Certain pitchers can hit better than him. Couldn't hit sand if he fell off a camel in the desert. He wants to be the starter. He's getting dealt anyhow. No more automatic outs aside from the pitcher.

Why Not... Strasburg can make up for Hedges deficiency at the plate... I mean... Stras can't possibly do worse, so just bat Strasburg 8th and Hedges 9th.

Darren O’Rourke

Of course. If you can count on victories regularly with Strasburg taken to another level by Hodges and shutting teams down every 5 days then you have to do it. Say they can hold teams to 2 runs a game really consistently, I take my chances even if you get no bat out of Hedges.

Strasburg has already proven that when he is healthy he is a top of the rotation SP on a contending team. He's hit 1500ks faster than any pitcher in MLB history and just won the MVP of the world series pitching to the likes of Suzuki, Barrera, and Read this past year. Sure Hedges is pretty good at calling a game, framing pitches and on defense, but his inability to hit above the Mendoza line has kept him out of the lineup. Evey top pitcher has their guys, so why not Hedges for Strasburg. But my sense is his decision to sign with the Padres will have more to do if he wants to come home and the money they offer him and less to do about whether Hedges is on the team.

Once every 5 days, and maybe a couple spot starts in between, nothing more

Aaron Sutherland

He can be Strasburg’s private catcher then he’ll only struck out every 5 days

Anthony Hutchings

He would be a great back-up catcher. If we have to keep him to get Strasburg, I'm all for it. He should not be the starter though.

Joe Cabral

whatever it takes, yes! Padres need an Ace

Isaac Ramirez

Yes. All you have to do is put Mejia behind the plate. Sit Hodges and maybe platoon him hell he could hit .049 - if it means signing Strasburg.

Mike Krupinski

If thats what it takes to get him I have no issue with that, you have to have a backup catcher anyways. Anyways I think if he was a little more selective, shortened his swing, and just tried to get on base instead of hitting homeruns his AVG would improve. I mean ultimatley as a #7 & 8 hitter thats really what your trying to do anyways,

Derrick McQuinn

Truth but he has to get better, seems like his offense has been regressing

Nathaniel Allison

No he's a terrible hitter Period. He's not going to go to another team and all of a sudden hit .250 That's a pipe dream if you guys think he can all of a sudden turn it around. Same shit like Hundley when there was a love fest with him too.

Is really just that he's a completely terrible hitter or has the team philosophy seemed to go big or go home. I put some of this one the coaching staff too.
